The work
Three local businesses, before and after.
Each of these is a real business near here. I found what was getting in their customers' way on a phone, rebuilt the site to fix it, and showed the owner before putting it here.
Booking layoutHoosick Falls, NY
Nick's Barber Shop
A one-chair barber shop on John Street. The booking worked. The page around it didn't.
What I found
- The booking page took over fifteen seconds to show up on a phone. Most people give up after three.
- While it loaded, the Book button slid down the screen, so people tapped the wrong thing.
- For nearly two seconds after the page appeared, tapping it did nothing.
- It wasn't really a website. No photos, nothing about who cuts the hair, and the prices easy to miss.
What changed
- The booking wasn't touched. Every Book button goes straight into the Square booking Nick already uses, on the right service.
- Three pages around it: Home, Services, Book, with the prices and times up front.
- Nothing on the page moves after it appears.
| On a phone | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Shows up in | 15.6 seconds | 1.3 seconds |
| Jumps while loading | Yes | No |
| Frozen after it appears | 1.7 seconds | 0.1 seconds |
Menu layoutCherry Plain, NY
17 Cherry Plain Square
A family restaurant and bar on Route 22, with a wood-fired oven and forty taps. The old site mentioned both in the fourth sentence of an About paragraph.
What I found
- Twenty-three seconds to show anything on a phone.
- A full-screen ad covered the menu before anyone could read it.
- For over a second after the page appeared, tapping the phone number did nothing.
- The good part was hidden. The tagline said nothing about the food. The oven and the taps were buried.
What changed
- “Wood-fired pizza and 40 taps” is now the first thing on the page.
- The whole menu on one page, as real text. No PDF, no pinching and zooming.
- Seven pages became three. The party ad became a section, so nothing covers the menu.
| On a phone | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Shows up in | 23.3 seconds | 2.6 seconds |
| Ad covering the menu | Yes | No |
| Frozen after it appears | 1.3 seconds | None |
Quote layoutGrafton, NY
Grafton Auto Service
An independent repair shop on Route 2 with no website at all.
What I found
- No website. Someone searching for a repair shop nearby found nothing to click.
- Two online directories listed the shop in two different towns. Google couldn't tell which was right, and neither could a customer.
What changed
- A four-line quote form at the top of the page: name, phone, vehicle, and what it's doing.
- Services named the way people search for them, not the way a shop talks about them.
- The towns it serves, listed, so a customer knows the drive is worth it.
| On a phone | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Website | None | Three pages |
| Asking for a quote | Phone only | A four-line form |
| Towns it serves | Not listed | Listed |

Send me your website. I'll tell you what it's costing you.
I'll look at it on a phone, the way your customers do, and send back a short video with the three things I'd change first. No charge, and no sales call unless you ask for one.
